Orange Business Services together with MSK-IX put a L-root server mirror into operation
Orange Business Services together with MSK-IX put into operation a L-root server mirror – one of 13 root DNS servers installed worldwide. The project was realized with assistance of ICANN corporation and the Technical Center the Internet.
Now besides 13 root servers there are more than 200 mirrors located in different points of the world. With their help geographical distribution of critical infrastructure of the global Internet and its resistance to the raised loadings, for example, is provided to DDoS-attacks. Start of each new mirror makes a contribution to global safety and stability of world system of domain names, provides shorter routes and fault tolerance of a network.
The new DNS server was placed on a platform of a point of an exchange of MSK-IX traffic in the city of Rostov-on-Don. Placement of a new mirror of the L-root server provided higher speed of opening of the sites and fault tolerance of a network.
"Functioning of root servers is critical for network functioning the Internet in general. The project on installation of a mirror of the L-root server in Rostov-on-Don not only promoted the solution of specific objectives on increase of speed of data exchange and loading of the sites, but also made a contribution to development of all Internet", – Vladimir Valkovich, the technical director of Orange Business Services commented.
"In the conditions of the increasing load of a network, the increase of number of DDOS attacks noted by analysts, placement of new mirrors helps to increase fault tolerance of a network in general.
