Softline modernized engineering infrastructure of a data-center of MFTI


The Softline company finished the project on modernization of engineering infrastructure  of TsODA of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology

The Softline company declares end of the project on modernization of engineering infrastructure of TsODA of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Following the results of works the institute received the modern data-processing center possessing big computing capacities. The new platform differs in the increased  energy efficiency, reliability and scalability.
The federal public autonomous educational institution of higher education  "Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (the state university)" (MFTI) carries out interdisciplinary target  training of highly qualified specialists and conducts scientific researches  in various areas of modern science and equipment.
The data-processing center of MFTI is a kernel of information systems of institute. The computing capacities collected in a data-center are used as the systems  intended for the physical modeling and calculations connected  with scientific and educational activity, and office appendices, such  as mail and communications, management of IT infrastructure, accounts department, etc.
Earlier many faculties and MFTI chairs had own servers, each of which was supported by forces of local experts. It threatened reliability and fault tolerance of work of the equipment, "washed away" responsibility for result, was economically inefficient.
The management of institute made the decision on consolidation of computing capacities  of separate faculties and chairs in uniform TsOD for the purpose of providing requirements of reliability, availability, safety and controllability of IT structure and depreciation of possession. However the existing data-center from the point of view of engineering infrastructure could not provide reliable functioning  of the equipment which was planned to place in it. Therefore in MFTI the decision on modernization of TsOD for its reduction in compliance  to modern requirements from the point of view of power, reliability and fault tolerance, and also for a possibility of installation of more power-intensive  IT equipment  was made.
The Softline company and MFTI are connected by long partnership in various IT directions. Quality of implementation of the project and reliable reputation of the performer was a priority for the customer. The technical solution presented to Softline on modernization of TsOD was recognized as the best following the results of the tender. As a result of Softline acted as a general contractor of this project.
At modernization of a data-center of MFTI the latest development in the field of power supply, conditioning and communication technologies was used. During the project the following subsystems were modernized:
·         system of distribution of power supply and uninterrupted power supply;
·         central air;
·         the structured cable system;
·         the automated system of dispatching management.
The created engineering infrastructure of TsOD is constructed on the basis of modular components  (interline conditioners, chiller, the UPS, cable system,  automatic equipment  controlers). Such principle allows to provide the current needs of the customer and does not demand use of the excess expensive equipment. The new architecture of a data-center of MFTI is characterized by unique reliability, high energy efficiency and easy possibility of scaling.
After completion of works on supply of equipment and installation of engineering systems  documentation made according to all requirements of state standard specification was provided to the customer. The document allowed to test operability  of all subsystems and to be convinced of their full readiness.
IT specialists of MFTI filled the created data-center with server, communication  and other necessary equipment and brought into commercial operation. Work in actual practice showed that TsOD meets all necessary  requirements from the point of view of power, reliability and fault tolerance.
Upon termination of the project the Softline company assumed obligations on five-year-old  guarantee and to service as the equipment installed  within the contract, and APC conditioners which were available for the customer.
Yury Shkandybin, the chief of TsOD MFTI, so commented on project results: "Creation of engineering infrastructure of a data-center – the complex challenge demanding  harmonious work of experts of several engineering areas. I consider that we were not mistaken, having entrusted this responsible project of the Softline company. The institute received the modern TsOD which ensured functioning  of the computing capacities which are available for MFTI and having a stock for their building  in the order. Acceptance tests showed compliance of the engineering  equipment to our requirements, and the agreement on five years' service  guarantees us long operability of a data-center".
"MFTI is a higher education institution which owing to the educational tasks – preparation of highly qualified  personnel for the IT market – is urged "to maintain reputation" and independently  to form for IT branch standards in the field of innovation  and reliability of infrastructure. For this reason quality of the created decision  interested the customer first of all. And the Softline offer based  on the latest technological development in the field of power supply and conditioning caused the greatest interest, – Natalya Morozova, the head of sales department of decisions in public sector of the Softline company  told. – This project was interesting to us by the scale, possibility of application and integration of the unique customized decisions and realization of a complex of services in interests of one customer. The impressive result is reached: MFTI received the functional complex of high-class engineering systems  which is completely meeting not only to the current requirements of higher education institution, but also long-term  plans of development of its infrastructure".
