The Petersburg branch of JSC "Rostelecom" in May, 2014 finished works on construction of telecommunication networks in new buildings of St. Petersburg, Gatchina, Vsevolozhsk, Lomonosov and Vyborg regions of the Leningrad region. Construction of fiber-optical infrastructure not only to the building, but also to the apartment allows new settlers to connect communication services on the basis of the PON technology at once when settling.

The press service of the operator reported that since the beginning of 2014 "Rostelecom" constructed a telecommunication network, having given opportunity for connection of modern and high-perspective communication services to 20 thousand households of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region the part from which is the share of such large housing estates as "The Nevsky style", "Gusi-Lebedi", "Aurora-2", and also "The southern residential area" in the city of Vsevolozhsk.

"Application of technology of passive optical networks (PON) provides possibility of providing telecommunication services of qualitatively new level to clients: Internet access at a speed more than 100 Mbps, digital "Interactive television" (IPTV), including – with a high definition of the image (HDTV), and a digital telephony with possibility of preservation of a subscriber number when moving within St. Petersburg and a set of additional free services", – was emphasized by the press service.

In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region the number of users of the services connected on the PON technology makes more than 260 thousand.
