The MTS mobile network operator will finish construction of a VSAT network in Siberia, in the Far East and the Northwest of Russia by the end of 2014. In total more than 140 base stations will be connected to VSAT terminals.

The president of JSC MTS Andrey Dubovskov told about it at a meeting with journalists within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, answering a question of the correspondent of IAA TelecomDaily. According to him, all VSAT networks will appear in 12 regions of Siberia, the Far East and the Northwest.

The press secretary of MTS Dmitry Solodovnikov specified that the operator already finished a preparatory stage during which provided with satellite stations the settlements located in remote and remote regions of Russia. "Five stations of satellite communication are already established in the Northwest, the others are divided between the remote territories of Siberia and the Far East (Krasnoyarsk Krai, the Novosibirsk region, Yakutia, the Magadan region, Kamchatka Krai, etc.)", – Dmitry Solodovnikov explains.

"We start an active phase of construction which we plan to finish in seven-eight months", – the employee of the press service of MTS Sergey Stanovkin speaks. At the second stage the operator intends to expand a satellite network, having connected to VSAT terminals 142 base stations located in Siberia and in the Far East.

Construction of a VSAT network began in December, 2013, investments into the project then were sounded at the level of 250 million rubles. According to MTS, creation of own VSAT network will reduce operational expenses because of refusal of rent of satellite channels in an area of coverage of this network, and also will allow to expand communication channels of a cellular network for 45%. While MTS connects remote base stations by means of the satellite communication channels rented at independent suppliers. Andrey Dubovskov does not open expense in absolute figures from rent.

The project of satellite communication works for "Vympelcom" since the beginning of the 90th years. For May, 2014 the operator established 408 VSAT stations after all regions of Russia, the resource of nine satellites is involved: "Express AM5", "Express AM3", "Express АМ33", "Yamal-300K", ABS-2, NSS-12, Intelsat 904, Intelsat 906 and NSS-9. "The channels organized by means of the VSAT technology are used by "Vympelcom" for communication with base stations in sparsely populated and remote areas, and also for corporate clients", – the press secretary of JSC Vympelcom Anna Aybasheva spoke.

The main satellite network of "Vympelcom" consists of the main long-distance communication channels and zone channels for needs of own network, and also channels for connection of corporate clients. "Total information simplex speed of channels of a satellite network makes 1,2 Gbit / with, thus in a stream there are no TV-channels, it is a traffic of our mobile and fixed network and client channels", – Anna Aybasheva supplements.
