The new contract of Apple with "Vympelcom" provides more comfortable conditions for the operator


The new contract of "Vympelcom" with Apple contains more comfortable conditions for the operator, than was earlier. In two years "Vympelcom" will have to sell 600 thousand iPhone – 2,5 times less, than in the last contract.

The operator VimpelCom opened terms of the contract on purchase of iPhone which in 2013 his Russian "daughter" "Vympelcom" (a trademark "Beeline") concluded with Apple corporation. According to the contract, "Vympelcom" will have to during the period from October, 2013 to June, 2016 – that is for 2 years and 9 months to buy 600 thousand devices.

Purchases of iPhone will have to be carried out every quarter according to number of devices, in advance painted in the agreement. For non-execution of the contract for "Vympelcom" penalties can be inflicted.

Mobile network operators started importing iPhone in Russia since the end of 2008. Then "Vympelcom", MTS and "MegaFon" agreed that for 1,5-2 will have to buy in total 4 million devices. The buying plan was also painted for every quarter.

However in the IV quarter 2008 it became clear that operators do not consult with set to conditions: operators could sell only at 5-20% of the demanded volume. In 2009 new purchases of devices it was made very little. In 2010, after an exit of iPhone 4, MTS and "Vympelcom" continued purchases, and here "MegaFon" stopped cooperation with Apple. In 2012 the term of the agreement and with MTS came to the end.

"Vympelcom" had the least favorable contract with Apple from all operators of "the big three": it undertook to buy 1,5 million devices in two years. "MegaFon" – 1 million iPhone in two years had to sell to MTS the same number of devices for 3 years, and. In reality "Vympelcom" for 2,5 years sold only 540 thousand devices. At the beginning of 2011 the operator could agree with Apple about the new contract for two years for which he undertook to sell the remained 960 thousand devices. However, and did not begin to impose penalties on anybody from operators of Apple.

Thus, it is much more attractive than a condition of the present contract to "Vympelcom", than a condition previous: he will have to sell in 2,5 less devices, than for in advance, and period of validity of the contract is one third more, than was earlier. However, this time "Vympelcom" will be able to realize devices only in own retail: sales through dealers are not provided.

At the beginning of 2014 the new contract with Apple was signed also by "MegaFon", having undertaken to buy 750 thousand devices in three years. Thus "MegaFon" assumed obligations for iPhone publicity expenses for the sum of 1,1 billion rubles.

Since the end of 2013 when sales of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Apple models also began began to deliver devices in Russia through computer distributors, for example, "Dikhaus". Through them now buys devices and MTS which now has no contract with Apple.
